[Exclusive] 'Andor' Season 2 Heads to Yavin

Yavin was first introduced by George Lucas in 'Star Wars.'

Andor Season 2 may be on an accelerated collision course with the events of Rogue One, but Tony Gilroy has revealed that Yavin is also on the agenda for the new season. During an in-depth interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub, Gilroy shared some details about the upcoming season of the show that really got us excited. Not only did he confirm that Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz and Alonso Ruizpalacios would direct, he also shared that his brother Dan Gilroy and Beau

Willimon would return to write the upcoming season, along with Star Wars newcomer Tom Bissell , which is set to write. . to enter the writer's room. During his eulogy for Bissell, he revealed Yavin's presence in Season 2, saying,

"Tom Bissell is really great and very, very interesting and versatile and a very good writer. But he's also very, very, very great Star Wars fan that we really wanted to make sure we got another pro because we're going to Rogue [One], and we're going to Yavin, and, then we're going to places that we eventually have to really meander back to the source.

Then Tom walked in and he was great. So he's got a few episodes, too."

With confirmation that they're targeting Yavin, who first appeared in George Lucas' original Star Wars films, it looks like Gilroy's series will further strengthen its ties to the further strengthening early films...and the tragic days of the rebellion.Yavin has a rich history in both the franchise's screen universe and the novels, giving Andor plenty of leeway in terms of storytelling potential.

What's in Yavin happened?

Yavin 4 was the site of the Galactic Civil War, the events that sparked the rebellion against the Empire's authoritarian rule. The Alliance to Restore the Republic used Yavin as their headquarters before a rather devastating on-planet battle prompted the rebels to find a new headquarters on the frigid planet of Hoth. The planet also became the site of the Battle of Yavin (or the Battle of the Death Star, depending on who you ask), a battle that brought the Rebel Alliance a clear victory against the Empire in

after destroying and maiming the Death Star . their armed forces.

Rogue One was already a prelude to these events, so it will be interesting to see how Gilroy plans to build on Yavin's legacy while fleshing out this very weak period in the history of the galaxy. Pre-production for Season 2 has already begun and Gilroy has confirmed to Collider that the first taping will take place on November 21st.

In addition to Cassian Andor, the series has already reintroduced the audience to Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly), Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) and Melishi (Duncan Pow), all of whom have attended the events of Rogue One. .. While it seems likely that Stellan Skarsgård will return for Season 2, the fates of Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough, Elizabeth Dulau, Faye Marsay and Varada Sethu are not yet known.
